Cannabis Chocolate Rules

It’s no secret… Cannabis chocolate is a great way to consume THC! We’re all pretty used to seeing chocolate and cannabis mixed in edibles. After all, if you live in Nevada or any other state with legalized cannabis, we have a wide array of choices here. Delicious choices! Scrumptious choices! Delectable choices! Cannabis chocolate provides you with a blissful experience that delights your senses. The combo makes your tastebuds and brain cells dance with joy! However, there’s more to it than simple outward pleasure. There are many surprising reasons why cannabis-infused chocolate is a uniquely elevating experience.

In this article, we will learn about the benefits of infusing chocolate with cannabis, how this method of consumption differs from smoking, and the different types of dosages you can expect to find in Nevada dispensaries.

Cannabis Chocolate – A Match Made in Heaven

A common myth that gets brought up when we discuss Chocolate and Cannabis is that cacao beans contain anandamide, also known as the bliss molecule, which is one of the endocannabinoids that our bodies naturally produce. However this myth was debunked in 1998 by respected cannabis researchers Raphael Mechoulam and Vincenzo DiMarzo, Cacao and chocolate do not contain anandamide.

Myths aside, cannabis and chocolate are still a great pairing. For starters, cacao contains the stimulant caffeine which is beloved for its uplifting and energizing effects. Cacao also contains large amounts of the compound theobromine. A cousin of caffeine, it is a vasodilator. When combined with cannabis, the theobromine promotes greater blood flow to the brain, helping more of the endocannabinoids from the cannabis to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Cacao also contains two other compounds that enhance the effects of cannabis. N-oleoyl ethanolamide (OEA) and N-linoleoylethanolamine (LOEA) help to prevent the breakdown of cannabis molecules in the body. In the absence of these compounds, the cannabinoids that we consume when we ingest cannabis would break down and dissipate faster. When combined with chocolate, you can expect your elevated experience to be more prolonged. Another reason for this is that chocolate also contains fat, which is important for binding to the cannabinoids in our bodies. Fat content in chocolate helps to improve the bioavailability of THC and CBD, assisting in their delivery to your CB1 and CB2 receptors.

In addition to this, cacao is rich in tryptophan. This is the compound that is responsible for the drowsiness you experience after eating a heavy meal. It is the precursor for us to make serotonin, one of the neurotransmitters that are responsible for triggering feelings of happiness.

The Serotonin & Dopamine Boost

Just as chocolate facilitates the release of serotonin, it also releases phenylethylamine and dopamine. Serotonin tends to make us feel happier and focused, while dopamine will make us feel more calm and peaceful. Phenylethylamine increases our energy and helps the body fight depression. Together, these three compounds create an effect that is similar to the endorphin rush you experience after intense exercise.

Many people like to enjoy cannabis-infused chocolates as an alternative to smoking cannabis. Perhaps they wish to avoid smoking because they have concerns about the health of their teeth and lungs. Perhaps they don’t enjoy the smell of smoke and the mess that can be left behind by smoking, such as ashes and so forth. The disadvantages of cannabis edibles, in general, are that it can be harder to manage the dose. Depending on the speed of your digestion it can take up to several hours for the effects of your edible to be felt. We’ve all heard those horror stories from friends who got impatient waiting for their edible to kick in, and accidentally ingested too much.

With cannabis chocolates, it’s important to go low and slow when it comes to discovering your best dose. Marijuana edibles in Nevada are limited to 10 milligrams of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in pot, per dose or more than 100 milligrams of THC per package, according to state law. Usually starting with on10 milligram portion will be plenty for most people. However, if you have a low tolerance or want to be extra cautious, you can start with half a square. Similarly, if you are experienced with cannabis or have a high tolerance, you may choose to eat a slightly larger portion.
