This episode of Soul D’licious Infused with Benjamin Bey & Bea Martinez aired on Aug. 8th, 2020 on KUNV 91.5.
Great Basin Vapes – A Paired Craft Experience
Benjamin Bey of Soul D’licious Seasonings and guest co-host Bea Martinez of THC Production interview Garrett Braun and Tom Young of Great Basin Brewery. The four discusses the OMG THC’s hops-flavored vape cartridges which just come out on the market. They also discuss the history of Great Basin Brewery. Additionally, Bea and Ben talk about the difference between infusing hops into oil vs. THC into the spices used in Soul D’licious Infused Seasonings.
For those not in the know, OMG THC and Great Basin have been working on a vape project together. For nearly two years! And after a long wait, things have finally come to be. OMG THC took the exact hop blends used in “Icky” and Tectonic Event IPAs. Then, they extracted the hop terpenes. Finally, we infused them into our premium cannabis vapes. The result is a paired craft experience like no other.
About Founder Tom Young
Great Basin Brewing Company started out as a dream for Tom Young. His love of homebrewing and the decline of the mining industry in the early nineties led to the question of “Why not?” Why not put it all on the line when there is a chance to live a dream? Luckily for all of us, he did.
Frequently, Tom faced serious obstacles and opposition. These including laws that prohibited beer production and a lack of banks willing to give out loans to breweries. However, Tom Young kept his eye on the prize. In fact, he’s still focused on making Great Basin the best brewery in Nevada. How? Through innovation and experimentation.
Today, Nevada’s oldest brewery is possible partly because Tom helped to get legislation passed that allowed the production of beer. Opening in 1993, Tom and his wife learned through many trials and tribulations how to run a restaurant and brewery. As the years passed, popularity grew and Great Basin became the local place to go for great beer, great food, and a great time.
About Great Basin Brewery
Great Basin Brewery has been operating its brewery and brewpubs since 1993 in the Reno/Sparks area. The company was established after Nevada brewers including company founders Tom Young and Eric McClary, successfully lobbied the Nevada Legislature to allow for brewpubs in the state. Their original brewery and restaurant is located on Victorian Square in Sparks. Within the year, they were winning awards. The Reno location was opened in 2010 with the expectation that its added capacity would satisfy the demand for the next five years.
Great Basin began regular bottling operations in 2011 and currently bottles a number of their award-winning brews. Their most popular beer is their “Icky” IPA. It has won many awards and was the first choice for OMG THC to turn into a vapable flavor. Their “Tectonic Event” double IPA was our second choice.
