Cannabis Science

Today in our science segment, we talk about CBD and arthritis in dogs. Canine osteoarthritis is an inflammatory condition marked by pain, stiffness, and loss of mobility. Much like humans, arthritic conditions can leave our furry friends feeling lethargic, irritable, and reluctant to engage in strenuous activities. Lately, arthritis has become quite common in dogs. In fact, it’s now estimated that at least 20% of all dogs over the age of 1 are at risk of developing arthritis. Additionally, as dogs age, their risk of developing arthritis continues to increase.

However, a new study by the scientific journal PAIN has shown great promise in treating canine osteoarthritis. The Balor College of Medicine conducted the study. Published in September of 2020, this double-blind placebo-controlled study showed that CBD use proved to be beneficial in 9 out of 10 cases. You read that right! A 90% chance of success! Wow!

Apparently, dogs have very similar biological characteristics when it comes to osteoarthritis. Therefore, this study was initially performed to see how well CBD use would transfer to human applications. Researchers determined that liposome delivery proved to provide the highest quality relief. Benefits remained for two weeks after CBD use stopped. Therefore, CBD was proved to address underlying arthritic issues.

The dogs were evaluated previously by the dogs’ owners and their veterinarians. Both owners and veterinarians reported improved conditions and mood. The higher the dose of CBD, the better the results. Give it a try on your aging pets and see how CBD can benefit your furry friends!

Hash It Out! – Interview With Ativa Talent

Today we’re talking about cannabis jobs in Nevada and around the country. Albert Pugrad and Josh Cox are part of Ativa Talent; a professional cannabis job staffing agency. According to Josh and Albert, there are multiple types of careers available in the cannabis industry. In fact, both low-level and higher-level positions are widely available around the country. This includes COO & CFO positions, sales, budtending operations, accounting, and more. However, Ativa Talent focuses heavily on executive and senior leadership roles. Additionally, Ativa Talent focuses on more nuanced roles including seed specialists, chemists, etc.

Josh and Albert believe most people are drawn to the industry because of growth opportunities. Many people are passionate about the plant and its potential for medicinal purposes. By 2023, predictions suggest that the job sizes in the industry will double from 150,000 to 300,000 people. This is because the process of converting the cannabis plant into the products desired by consumers is a very labor-intensive process. Therefore, the more people who become cannabis consumers, the more jobs will be necessary to complete the array of tasks.

Josh and Albert recommend those people looking to enter the cannabis industry look to get in as a production worker. They also suggest getting placed in an area you are passionate about. A role you feel you can make valuable additions and where you feel you can best apply your skillset. Additionally, they recommend talking with others in the industry. People are quite open and usually, they’re willing to help get others involved.

Nugs of Knowledge

This week, we talk about hemp and cannabis. Did you know that hemp and cannabis are the same species? It’s true. However, just like humans, we’re not all the same. In fact, “cannabis” is a genus. It has Cannabis Ruderalis, cannabis Indica, and cannabis sativa

Legally, hemp produces a very small amount of THC. Hemp doesn’t demand the level of attention required to produce THC-rich cannabis. Hemp is often used to produce food, clothing, and other industrial products. Interestingly, the 2018 Farm Bill only legalized CBD that comes from the hemp plant. As of now, cannabis-derived CBD is still not legally allowed. However, states with cannabis legalization do allow this form of CBD.
